The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger About Size Changes

Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.

Social Media Backlash

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.

The company said the updated approach better aligns with similar services.

They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, which has left users frustrated.

Size Classification Changes

Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.

"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.

Manual Updates

A different user, located in England, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.

Marketplace Information

The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options following member complaints.
