The pace bowler has claimed 309 wickets in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.
The Australian chief selector George Bailey has stated that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in the upcoming historic rivalry.
Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.
Initial reports from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the extended contest set to start on the 21st of November in Perth.
He revealed that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about the likelihood of being involved.
"It's clear that time is getting short and multiple considerations involved, not just the physical problem, but further aspects," he commented.
"It's positive. There's strong faith that he's going to play a major part. With luck from the opening match. If not, then we'll pick it up."
Previous Setbacks
The captain missed the white-ball matches against New Zealand and India last month after medical tests showed a lower back issue.
He has a history of recurring issues, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss several home seasons in a short span.
He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to make the squad for the series.
Bailey noted that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his recovery but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the first Test.
Contingency Plans
Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their one-day international series against the Asian giants as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.
He labeled it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."
"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.
"He was only going to play the initial matches regardless. How he handles the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for a short period, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
